A competition entry_Caroline

Hero and Heroines at work: we are planning a series of profiles of people who have shown great bravery at work. Who could you nominate to be included in the series? Write to us, describing this person's achievements, and give two reasons why you believe he or she should be included in our series.

To whom it may concern

I am writing a response to your "Hero and Heroines at work" competition announcement. The person I would firmly nominate is Pierre Thibault. I do not know his personally, but I have read on a newspaper about his adventure.

He is 85 years old and he is in his retirement, of course! On one normal day, he went to the post office to handle his personal duties. While he was waiting in the queue, suddenly a masked man burst in and threatened everybody. He commanded to lie on the floor. Naturally, for and elder man like Pierre, It was extremely hard to lie quickly on the floor. The thief saw him and started coming towards him.. Pierre turned around and succeeded in knocking the gun out of the man's hand by using his walking stick. Immediately the other customers blocked the man and held him until the arrival of the police.

My main reason for nominating him is that he had an incredible courage to cope with the dangerous situation, despite his age. If I were him, I would not be as brave as he was.

My second reason for choosing him is that he was prompt to defend everyone. In my opinion he is one of that person that you should consider a hero, not only for his courage, but also because he showed that everyone could make a difference in each one lives.

Yours faithfully,

Carolina Lospinoso.

Essay_Caroline

You have recently had a discussion in your English class about places to live. Now your teacher has asked you to write an essay, giving your opinion on the following statement.

- Whatever your age, life in the country is always better than life in the city.

In my country there is a large choice of where to live. There are people who prefer living in the countryside of a town and others who prefer living in the centre of the town. It depends of course on the liking of every individual.

However, for both the selections, there are PROS and CONS.

Firstly, the main reason why people choose to live in the countryside is for the healthy air and also for the possibility to cultivate on your own typical kind of fruits and vegetables. It is similar to a way of getting by with your own farm. On the other hand, you will have no freedom in terms of going out with friends. There aren't plenty of choices regarding the night-life in the suburbs.

Despite all, living in the town has a lot of  PROS relating not to the healthy side, of course! Here, you can easly go from a place  to another because the town is fully linked. But It also has extremely consequences regarding the environment. It is not only the air pollution (acid rains, fumes..), but there is the acoustic pollution too, which can affect your all life.

I believe that living in the suburbs will completely fit with my dream of living. It will be better if they link well this part of town with the centre, just to let people doing their daily routine in an easy way.

 Hi Andrew,

thanks for your letter. I'm really glad you finally made a decision about that.

According to me, this kind of activities are going to attract and catch the attenction of a lot of people. It's also a different way of getting fit and healthy. Nowdays, in a technologic generation, It's really hard to find young people not playing computer games and spending their time outside also during sunny days!

Despite all, children in my country usually go swimming or playing soccer during summer time. Only some of them join little summer camps organised by the Church, where they can play a plenty of interesting games.

I'm completely free this summer so It will be absolutely grateful to help you with the organisation. It's an opportunity for me to increase my knowledge and my experience.I'd like information on where I'm going to stay and with who, please.

Love,
Caroline

[Writing part 1]

My dear Andrew,
I'm so pleased to hear some news about your business. What a beautiful idea starting off a new activity! Running your own holidays camps, children will have a whale of time and get brand new experiences!
I definitely think your camp will be successful and a massive number of children will join it.

In my country, during summer, children get easily bored: they've got  plenty of time but they waste it because they have no idea how to spend it.They would be delighted knowing about holidays activities!

I'd really like helping you running your camps, but I haven't completely understood where am I going to stay. Can you tell me something more about my accommodation?

Please, write me as soon as possible.
Kisses,

Benny

ADVETISEMENT: we are looking for someone to work in our shop near the beach. You should: -have worked in a shop before -enjoy dealing with people -be willing to work some weekends.

Dear Mrs Richardson,
I have seen your advertisement published on the newspaper and I would be very pleased to apply for the job.

Let me introduce myself…I’m quite 17, I attend the third year of the high school in a small city in the south of Italy, an English course in order to get the FCE Cambridge certification and a CISCO academy course in my school.

I can define me a responsible, punctual, patient and honest person despite my young age. I’m totally available to deal with people, any problem and situation. I’m open and cheerful, always ready to help or advise. I had a work experience in a shop situated in the city centre, but I think that a shop near the beach it’s such a different thing. I deeply love the sea so I would be enthusiastic to work in your shop. I will be willing to work at weekends as you will request me. Besides I want to expose you my time division…I would like to work for 9 hours a day in two shifts in the morning and in the evening. We can also stipulate conditions for extras shifts if you intend to employ me. I will do my best to make you satisfied. I also need money for the university, so I will put the maximum commitment.

I hope you’ll appreciate and consider my references.

Looking forward to your response
Best regards,
Anna Silvia Panico

I would like to work in two shifts in the mornings and in the evenings for  8 hours a day.
If you are interested in my propose, I’ll send you my references.
Looking forward to hearing from you
