You have recently had a discussion in your English class about places to live. Now your teacher has asked you to write an essay, giving your opinion on the following statement.
- Whatever your age, life in the country is always better than life in the city.
In my country there is a large choice of where to live. There are people who prefer living in the countryside of a town and others who prefer living in the centre of the town. It depends of course on the liking of every individual.
However, for both the selections, there are PROS and CONS.
Firstly, the main reason why people choose to live in the countryside is for the healthy air and also for the possibility to cultivate on your own typical kind of fruits and vegetables. It is similar to a way of getting by with your own farm. On the other hand, you will have no freedom in terms of going out with friends. There aren't plenty of choices regarding the night-life in the suburbs.
Despite all, living in the town has a lot of PROS relating not to the healthy side, of course! Here, you can easly go from a place to another because the town is fully linked. But It also has extremely consequences regarding the environment. It is not only the air pollution (acid rains, fumes..), but there is the acoustic pollution too, which can affect your all life.
I believe that living in the suburbs will completely fit with my dream of living. It will be better if they link well this part of town with the centre, just to let people doing their daily routine in an easy way.
Hi Caroline,
ReplyDeleteA good essay. You have organised it very well with a nice clear opening paragraph describing what you are going to be talking about and both sides of the argument well presented.I think this essay would be clearly in the 4 bracket - well done.
The specifics:
Careful about your definitions. Suburbs are the bits just outside the main town, countryside is rural with farms, forests etc!
- You can't have "countryside of a town." I think you mean "outskirts" of a town. i.e. the suburbs.
- "taste" rather than "liking"
- You don't need capitals for pros and cons.
- possibility (or chance) of cultivating (no "on") your own typical...
- fruit is almost always uncountable, so fruit not fruits
- "there aren't many" sounds better than "there aren't plenty" of choices
- Despite all of this, or despite everything
- relating to other things besides health issues
- from one place to another because all parts of the town are fully linked
- However is better at the beginning of a sentence than but
- extreme consequences (extremely is the adverb)
- word order "can affect all your life/all areas of your life"
- my dream for my life/for the way I want my life to be
- word order "link this part of town well with the centre, just to let people carry out their daily routine more easily.
Well done and good luck with the exam as I think you are taking it very soon.
Best wishes,
Sherry
