THE BOOK "JANE EYRE"
This novel has been written by the famous French writer Charlotte Bronte and it became in a very few time a bestseller ridden and loved by many people. The main character of the story's Jane Eyre, the heroine of her own life.
This novel begins a freezing cold afternoon, where there was such heavy rain. Jane was just a teen years old girl and she lived in her aunt's house at Gateshed. Here she was treated unfairly by her cousins and her aunt, who didn't stand looking after her after her parents' death. Jane's childhood was full of sorrow, despair, hate on the people she thought they were her life. Her cousins, Eliza,Georgiana and John were selfish and cruel, and they never missed the opportunity to make her feel like she was nothing, like she was brought to light and she wasn't alive, she just survived or even more existed. One day, accordin to Mr.Brocklehurst opinion,Jane's aunt ,Mrs.Reed, decided to send her niece away to a school at Lowood. This was a school where teachers believed in hard work, plain food, simple clothes and no luxury of any kind. Here in this school,Jane made a new friend:she knew a pupil which her faith in God let her going on in her life. Her name's Helen Burst. She will dying in Jane's arms, because of a typus fever,as a result of poor food and bad living conditions. Anyway,Helen died smiling;she said to Jane that by dying young, she'll avoid suffering.
Helen's death was a turning point in Jane's life: thereafter,Jane begins a brand new start. She realized she had never known any other world apart from Gateshed or Lowood,so she bacame a governess at Thornfield in Thornfield Hall,a large gentleman's house in the country. Here, she fell in love with the owner of the house,Mr.Rochester, and she taught to Adèle. Adèle is the daughter of Mr.Rochester's French mistress. Mr Rochester asked Jane to marry him,but while they were at the altar, suddenly two unknown men appear saying they disagree to the marriage, bacause Mr.Rochester has already got a wife. Jane, knowing this, ran away and ,after a journey which took two days, she walked acroos a moor. She found a dry place to sleep after wandering for a long time. Later, she'll know that the people who welcomed her in their little house, saving her from starvation, were her cousins. They were Diana,Mary and John, a missionary who wants to adempt to God's volition. Jane will discover her uncle had died and had left all his porperty to her. Jane inherited twenty thousand pounds, which she decided to share equally to her three cousins:they would be five pounds each.
Now,Jane Eyre is rich but she had never rubbed out Mr.Rochester's name from her heart: so,she'll return to Thornfield. Asking information, she heard Mr Rochester's wife, blinded by jelousy, had tried to kill him creating a fire:the man risked his life helping bravely all the servants and her wife jumped from the roof and feel to death. But the master was injured in the fire: he lost one hand and he became blind.
At the end,Jane will find Mr.Rochester ,who asked her to forgive him,and they will marry and live happily.
I spent about three days reading this novel.
Because of an oxford project,my English teacher lent me this book .In the story, the main character is that one I mostly prefer. Jane Eyre,in fact, embodies a typical woman who fights to earn her rights.
In the first part,I noticed how she was treated badly from her own family, and I read how her decision makes her be more confident with the circumstances being in her life:I saw her efforts bring her to a brand new happy life. Jane Eyre is the perfect example of a woman who wants to be loved.Growing up with lots of pain,-she had no love,no money,no friend,no family-,she bravely behaved to became who she became,a rich business man's wife.
I've been shocked by Mr Rochester's temperament:differently from his wife Jane,he didn't work hard to improve his live, even if he and Jane have both in common an orrible younth.
He is the typical man who doesn't show any kind of emotions, the one who kept all his feeling inside . Surprisingly, when he knows Jane,he knows from the bottom of his heart that love never dies.
This is what the writer of this novel wants to point out to their readers and that, from a lack of affection, itself can be generated.
The end of the book is the part that surprised me the most.Jane decides to return back to the man she has always loved,so she decides to follow her heart. In my opinion I think this is a wonderful book, and I would recommend everyone to read it.
"Now,Jane Eyre is rich but she had never rubbed out Mr.Rochester's name from her heart"
ReplyDeletei don't know if i made a mistake..
Benny, I do appreciate your hard work but ... you really need to stick to those FCE guidelines. If this is a review ... you should write between 120 and 180 words, not 1000!!
ReplyDeleteIf you want us to check your piece of work, could you please rewrite it and publish it again..
Thanks
Hello Benny,
ReplyDeleteNot sure if you were going to redo or if that last bit was the redone bit? As Dtta.ssa Lombardi has already said, you have gone to a lot of trouble writing this - the cruel thing is that it would get marked down because of the length. Also, as it's intended as a review, the last bit is what would actually count, where you're actually reviewing the book, but the examiner wouldn't get to that bit because it's past the cut-off point so it's very important to keep it short in an exam!
Anyway, looking at your writing, there's a lot of good language here. You've paragraphed it well and your sentences read well - they are balanced and varied in style which is an excellent point. One general thing to remember is that reviews of books, films etc are normally written in the present tense rather than the past, because obviously the book/film is always the same whoever reads or sees it!!
To go through language items in detail:
- This novel was written
- famous British writer (Where did French come from?????)
- word order: and in a very short time it became
- read (not ridden. Ridden is the past participle of ride)
- begins on a freezing....
- when it is raining heavily
- Jane is a 10-year-old girl (with the hyphens or "is 10 years old" without) and lives....
- Spelling: Gateshead,
- and aunt, who don't like looking after her after her parents' death
- hatred from the people who she thought (were her life?? Not sure what you want to say by this.)
- make her feel as if she is nothing
- the sentence from "brought to light" to "existed" isn't really clear. Could you explain what you want to say?
- One day, because of Mr. Brocklehurst's opinion, Jane's aunt, Mrs. Reed, decides to.....
- Here....Jane gets to know a pupil
- Not sure what you want to say by "let her going on in her life"??
- I wouldn't abbreviate in a review or any formal text. Her name is rather than her name's
- Spelling "typhus"
- She dies in Jane's arms... (the future tense doesn't really work here).
- when they are at the altar...disagree with the marriage
- Finding out about this, Jane runs away...
- Spelling: across
- Later she finds out that the people
- What do you mean by "adempt to God's volition?" or do you mean attempt to do God's will?
- Is it five pounds each or five thousand pounds?
- I would use erased rather than rubbed out
- Asking for information she hears that Mr. Rochester's wife, blinded by jealousy, has tried to kill him by starting a fire
- bravely helping (rather than helping bravely)
- in the end.... and they marry
The next section is the actual review bit!!
- Oxford (capital letters for names)
- is the one I like the most
- treated badly by her...
- confident about the circumstances in her life
- she bravely works towards becoming what she becomes
- I was shocked
- different from his wife Jane's
- he and Jane both have in common a horrible youth
- he is a typical man...emotions, one (no the) who keeps all....
- when he gets to know Jane
- the bit from "from a lack of affection it can be generated" is not clear. What exactly do you want to say here? Is it that love can even come from a situation where there was no affection to start with?
- return to (no "back") or "go back to" (with "back")
As I said above, if you transposed virtually all the verbs into the present tense it would be better suited to the language of a review.
Going back to the length issue, I would suggest that the last bit where you've given your opinion is really all you have to do with just a very brief outline of the story in just a few lines.
As I also said, lots of good language here so well done for all your effort.
Best regards,
Sherry
Dear Sherry,
ReplyDeleteThanks, thanks, thanks.
I know unfortunatly I usually write too many words: these days I'm timing myself to improve my English and to keep my writing shorter to stick to FCE guidelines..
Best regards,
benny :)
